Relocating to a new home can be stressful. But, there are steps to make it easier. In this video, experienced mover Stephanie shares her top 10 packing and moving tips.
Before you start, she recommends buying two or three extra boxes.
Most moving companies will let you return any unused boxes. This same rule applies for tape. Choose a paper-based product without a dispenser that can rip easily. Buy smaller boxes that will be easier to carry. And, put everything in these boxes. The more awkward-shaped and loose items you have, the more difficult stacking will be.
Set aside a travel bag and box just for essentials. Keep out what you may need for your first couple nights. This includes a change of clothes, toilet paper, towels and even cleaning supplies. As you pack, sort items into sections. Keep everything organized as you go. Detailed labeling will help with this.
Surprisingly, your moving day wardrobe is also important. Stephanie chooses overalls and boots. This provides plenty of pockets for pens, markers, and tape.
Finally, if you do need help, chose a trusted moving company with good reviews and a strong reputation. No need to be cheap when these strangers will be handling your personal items.
