To begin, construction is still overwhelmingly a male-dominated industry and there are far fewer female home builders. Habitat for Humanity believes that everyone deserves a decent place to live, regardless of their financial situation. Although this is a need for everyone, women encounter obstacles that make it more difficult to get their hands on it.
All areas of life are represented within the Women Home Builders as a volunteer corp. Among them are the following:
Female heads of families are more likely to be poor than their male counterparts: In 2017, 15% of adult women were poor, while 66% of low-wage workers were female. The poverty line is reached by 31% of families led by a female head of home that has children. There is still a disparity in the quantity of high-interest loans that are given to people of color, women, and poor and moderate-income borrowers in the United States.
In the United States, women still earn on average 80 percent of what males do. For Black and Hispanic women, in particular, wage inequality is considerably more pronounced. With the aid of volunteers, we can raise awareness of impediments to affordable housing and develop strength and stability for all of our neighbors.
