Metal roofing can offer your home many benefits, but it needs to be properly installed, first. This video will explain the most common mistakes people make when installing metal roofs.
Lapping Panels
Lapping the panel incorrectly is the first mistake. The wider end is covered by the other panel so that the short lip is showing when you are finished installing.
Screws Set Incorrectly
Pay attention to each screw you insert. When you drill them in, you have to hit the perfect balance so that the washer is not squished and pushed out but also so it isn’t too loose.
Excessive Sealant
Remember, the goal of a metal roof is to insulate and protect your home using the metal panels and trim correctly. If there is a crack, loading it up with sealant will not do the trick if you want a long-lasting roof.
Too Much Overhand
If you want overhang on your roof, it is recommended to keep it under 2.5 inches.
Too Few Screws
Your pipe flashing and other parts of the roof need to be secured properly with screws. If you get lazy and don’t use enough, the panels are pretty much useless for the long-haul.
