Generator Repair for New Homeowners

Posted on July 20, 2022July 31, 2024

Servicing your generators is essential to making sure that they work well for many years to come. The first step in your standby generator repair routine is to change the engine oil and filter. As you are using your generator at home, the fuel system, exhaust system, DC electrical system, and engine must all be closely inspected for any leakage that could result in hazardous occurrences.

Although standard servicing and oil change intervals of 500 hours are suggested, some applications may call for shorter servicing intervals. If necessary, inspect your diesel generator once a month or more frequently for optimum maintenance.

Regular inspections are also vital for the wiring harnesses, AVR, controllers, and the entire sensor system. Deep diagnostics will ensure that the generator runs smoothly and readily and that it is accessible when you need it. General inspections that check the coolant level, fuel system, oil level, and starting system should be part of preventive maintenance. Regular checks should be made for cracks, holes, dirt, and loose connections in the charge-air cooler pipework and hoses.
