Tips To Tacke A Move

Posted on April 14, 2013

Did you know that more than 15 percent of the U.S. population moves in a year, according to statistics from the U.S. Bureau of the Census? People move every year for numerous different reasons. For example, to be closer to family, or for a better job, or simply for a better climate. Interestingly however, the majority of people reporting moving for reasons linked to employment. 44 percent of people say that they have relocated due to a job opportunity or transfer. And interestingly, college graduates are more likely to move, and to move longer distances, than those with just a high school diploma. However, moving can be quite stressful on a family, both emotionally and financially.

If you are planning a move you may want to consider hiring a moving company to help. Particularly if you are planning a long distance move, you will want to look into long distance movers. However, when hiring a moving company there are several things that you will want to keep in mind. First of all, keep in mind that it tends to be most expensive to move during the warmer months, approximately June through September, a time frame known as “moving season.” Therefore, hiring any kind of moving company during this time frame is likely to be more expensive. Therefore, you may want to consider cross country moving outside of this timeframe if you are looking to cut costs. If you are moving on a budget you might also want to consider moving mid week or mid month. Moving pods are also something to look into. Though you have to pack the pods yourself, which can be labor intensive, the pods moving process is cheaper than hiring a mover.

Lastly, there are several things you will want to keep in mind when moving. A comprehensive checklist is essential to a successful move, as you want to make sure that nothing is lost, misplaced, or forgotten during the moving process. Furthermore, when you use a moving service, it can be a good idea to pack a “survival box” containing the essentials you will need on day one in your new home. For example, you might want to include a coffeemaker, cellphone charger, pillows, change of clothes, etc. You will want to make sure that this box is the last thing in and first thing out a moving truck. Overall, with some careful planning and budgeting, you can successfully tackle a move.
